Orreco makes a big splash in the US

Orreco was founded in 2010 by High-Performance Sports Scientist Dr. Brian Moore and Consultant Hematologist Dr. Andrew Hodgson, who have over 30 years of combined research in the field of clinical and applied sports science. Orreco is a designated Enterprise Ireland High Potential Start-Up which is poised to revolutionize the world of high-performance sport.

Orreco applies advanced research-driven solutions in science and analytics to deliver actionable insights and strategies to help keep athletes off the bench and ready to perform. The company’s recently-released FitrWoman app helps female athletes track their menstrual cycle and provides personalized training and nutritional suggestions tailored to their changing hormone levels. FitrWoman takes the guesswork out of training.

A Performance Partnership

USA Swimming, the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States, and Orreco, have teamed up to raise awareness for the groundbreaking FitrWoman app.

“The more awareness we can drive to this app within the swimming community, the more we can begin to understand the impact the sport of swimming has on the female hormonal system,” said Keenan Robinson, USA Swimming Director of Sports Medicine and Science. “We are continually looking at innovative ways, and to work with world-leading organizations such as Orreco, to further educate us in ways to help reduce injuries or illnesses, in this instance as a result of hormonal irregularities.”

USA Swimming becomes the first US NGB to partner with the FitrWoman app. Under the partnership, Orreco scientists and performance experts, will work with USA Swimming National Team staff to deliver coach and athlete education workshops and will conduct swimming specific research for the specialized area of ‘the female athlete’ to benefit girls and women in the sport.

“We are very excited about this partnership and the opportunity to bring the cutting-edge science that underpins our work with elite athletes to the girls and women of USA Swimming,” said Dr. Brian Moore, Orreco CEO and co-founder. “Historically investment in female athlete specific research has been overlooked. Our team is working hard to address this. We are excited that the years of peer-reviewed research underpinning FitrWoman will help these swimmers to utilize the power of the hormonal cycle to be their best on any given day. It is our ambition to take a leadership position and support female athlete research globally.”

Bringing Sports Data to the US

The Galway-headquartered company’s recently-opened, new high-tech office is set within the campus of Sports Rehab Los Angeles, one of America’s most high-profile sports training and recovery centers. Sports Rehab LA has some of the world’s most famous sports stars on its books including the biggest names in basketball, American football, and the English Premier League.

“Our new home in LA and will allow us to deliver a truly world-leading offering for elite athletes in the United States, a significant market for us,” said Dr. Moore. “At Orreco, we work with some of the best athletes on the planet. We are also very proud of the peer-reviewed research that drives our support and is constantly looking for evidence-based and clinically-proven technology that can help our clients get even better.”

Enterprise Ireland CEO Julie Sinnamon was on hand to help open the new Los Angeles office of Irish sports data, biomarker and performance experts Orreco. The new LA office is also home to a new data and performance portal developed by IBM with Orreco called IBM Sports Insights Central, which lists a select number of NBA players and is used by all the major NBA teams and agents.

“I am delighted to join the Orreco team in celebrating the opening of their new office in Los Angeles. Orreco now joins the list of over 180 Enterprise Ireland-supported companies which have opened offices in the USA in the past five years,” said Julie Sinnamon, CEO, Enterprise Ireland. “Irish companies now operate in all 50 states and across a broad range of industries – in fact 81,000 people in the USA are employed by Enterprise Ireland client companies like Orreco. I would like to congratulate the team here on progressively evolving and responding to market opportunities, which have paved the way to this milestone.”

Orreco’s actionable data products have already gained significant traction with clients and professional sports stars in Formula 1, on the PGA tour, and with players and teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and Olympic sports.
